Summary

After losing her mother to breast cancer, Dr. Christine Horner re-evaluated her life’s direction and chose to be a full time women’s health crusader and educator. Ending the breast cancer epidemic in America became the passion of her life, and Waking the Warrior Goddess, her medium.

Dr. Horner is the surgeon who pushed landmark legislation through Congress in the 90s requiring insurance companies to start paying for breast reconstruction after mastectomy. She was featured on Oprah in October 2000 for her groundbreaking work, and her organization was chosen to be part of Oprah’s Angel Network. Her book incorporated the findings of thousands of published studies showing proven ways to dramatically reduce the risk of breast cancer and also fight it.

Strategy

We flooded the media with published research cited in her book that showed the efficacy of natural approaches for prevention and treatment. We secured media placements in Newsweek, Woman’s World, on CNN and Yahoo and hundreds of other outlets—yielding millions of impressions. Dr. Horner became one of the most sought-after sources on the topic.

Results

Waking the Warrior Goddess: Dr Christine Horner’s Program to Protect Against and Fight Breast Cancer, was chosen as winner of the 2006 Independent Publisher Book Award (IPPY) for “Best Book of the Year in health/nutrition/medicine.” According to Basic Health Media publisher Norman Goldfind, “DDC was the force behind the unprecedented wave of media coverage which led to high volume book sales and ultimately the coveted IPPY award.
